Lessons to Change Your Company

If you want to change your company, start off by “making your bed every day”.

If you can’t do the little things right, you will never do the big things right.   This means getting a foundation in place.  Getting to work on time, making sure people have the training and tools they need to perform their jobs, and getting people in the right jobs.  Creating a positive productive culture that focusses on the main things.  Create an environment of learning and healthy life balance.  Respect everyone.

If you want to change the company, find someone to “help you paddle”

Everyone knows how talented you are but you can’t do it by yourself. To succeed in today’s economy everyone needs to be focused on paddling together and in the same direction. Find your team and find them fast.

If you want to change your company, “measure a person by the size of their heart, not the size of their flippers” (Navy Seal expression)

How many times have you seen people in positions that they have had for many years and have not “grown” professionally.   They feel entitled to their positions and are quick to talk about others failures vs. standing by their own accomplishments.  The best employees may not be the most accomplished, they are the people who are looking to prove themselves and will stop at nothing to show they have the right stuff.

But if you want to change the company, don’t be afraid of the Failure.

The pain of failure builds inner strength and physical resiliency.  Life is filled with failures.  You will fail. You will likely fail often. It will be painful. It will be discouraging. At times it will test you to your very core.

If you want to change the world sometimes you have to charge the obstacle “head first.”

Business is tough and your competitors are too.   So many companies think growth can be achieved in a saturated market by working harder.   If you offer the same services and solutions as your competitors in a market that is not growing you will not grow either.

If you know you need to evolve you will need to of course plan your strategy but you won’t know the results until you commit to diving in “head first”.  In most cases this is how your company started and it is also how it will be evolutionary challenges. Often older companies have difficulty taking the “plunge”.

So, If you want to change the company, don’t back down from the sharks.

Your competition is very strong and fierce.  They want what you have including your profits, clients, and star employees.   When they start circling your business don’t panic, stand your ground, and fight back.   As they say in a shark attack; “punch them in the nose and they will turn tail”.   When put up more of a fight than they expected you will prevail.

Never back down!

If you want to change the company, you must be your very best in the darkest moment.

Great companies are defined by how they meet their challenges.   Low sales, poor cash flow, competitive pressures can easily crush a culture and company.  Bankruptcy courts are littered with their filings.

A wise man once said; “nothing is funny when you’re not making money”.   It is true at this time things stop being fun or funny and it is also at this time that everyone must be their absolute best to succeed.

Never give up!
